Recently...

Since I'm back from my holiday, I have been busy with my work. I thought to take a break today, relax and carry on tomorrow. So I thought I better update my blog.

Not sure are you following the World Cup. If so, you may have already know that England is out. I remember when I went to work yesterday, I felt peacefulness with a bit of sadness in it. The headline news was mainly talking about the 'Vampire' Suárez. I guess I will only be watching the final this year and not bother with others.

Anyhow, I hope all the busyness will soon be gone so that I can carry on with my blog properly...

Birthday this year

It was my birthday two days ago. However, I haven't really done much celebration, apart from going to the countryside. Also, because it was such a sunny day, I felt that I must seize the chance.
Living in the UK for almost ten years. However, I still haven't been to many places around Bristol. Stroud is one of them. It is in the famous Cotswolds area and takes 40 minutes to drive from Bristol. If you prefer to see the lovely countryside view and have a relaxing hike, Woodchester is the place to go.
When we followed the 'Scenic Route', the picturesque village view was available within a minute. Carrying on driving through the Route, we walked around a 'never ending' green field and woodland. I really enjoyed it a lot.

Last but not least, what kind of thing can you imagine below?

London's Interesting Market - Camdon Market

Yesterday was Good Friday, I wish you to have a happy Easter.

Since last year I went to London with my sister-in-law, we have decided to visit London once per year if possible. We went to Borough Market last time, so we hoped to find another market, especially where it served lunch. We tried Camdon Market.

Soon after we arrived at Camdon Town tube station, I was attracted by the funky decor on the wall. However, we were really hungry; we needed to find food quickly. Thanks goodness that we managed to spot an area with loads of food stalls soon after crossing a river.

The food they served were from around the world: Italian pasta, German sausages, sushi, curry, jerk chicken etc. It was hard to make a decision as we wished to have a bit of everything. The sellers were very helpful and kept giving us simple to try until we were happy with our choice. There were also some tables and seats available so we could eat properly.
If you have a chance to visit London, go there! You can also shop around as I've heard that the goods in Camdon Market is quite cheap.

Don't forget...

Today is the last weekend in March. It means there is something that everyone must do in the UK...

Change the clock to one hour forward!

Change to the British Summer Time.

How this affect the UK people?

1) We need to change all clocks tomorrow morning.

2) The daylight will be longer every day.

3) There will be less time different between the UK and Hong Kong and its neighbouring regions.

4) Everyone needs to spend at least one day (or up to two weeks I've been told) to adjust the change. And...

5) One hour less to sleep (or one hour short for Sunday!)

Wawawawawawawawawa...

Natural phenomenon @ Severn Bore

There is an interesting nature scene called tidal bore. According to Wikipedia: 'A tidal bore is a tidal phenomenon in which the leading edge of the incoming tide forms a wave (or waves) of water that travels up a river or narrow bay against the direction of the river or bay's current.'

There are only a few places in the world you can see this phenomenon and one of them is at the River Severn. My husband and I deliberately drove to Gloucester to see this famous bore at the beginning of this month and here is the recording of the bore:

Valentine's Day 2014 for Western and Chinese

Last Friday was the Valentine's day. However, my husband and I always believe that this day has been commercialised so we rarely go out and celebrate. Also, we both needed to work on that day. My husband agreed to cook me a valentine dinner on the following night.
Firstly, I would like to mention that my husband is just an OK cook. I didn't have a high expectation. When he was nearly finished cooking, I opened the first wine which we bought from Virgin. I then sat down at the table waiting for the meal to come. I didn't anticipate that he made the starter: smoked salmon with egg on toast. It seemed like a simple dish to make but it looked great!
Then, the main: oyster mushroom with risotto rice. I really could not believe that he chose to make vegetarian meal as he is a meat eater. He drizzled some lemon juice and tarragon on the risotto. It tasted really good. I even asked him for the recipe.
Last but not least, his famous dessert in the house: cherry cake. Hmm... this was the best dinner he had made since I married him. This meal was way better than eating at any of the restaurant!
(PS after all the food and drink, it's time to do some exercise. My work place organises a 'Pedometer Challenge'. The point is to fight against mental illness. The rule is to find 5 people to form a group. Then using this Pedometer to measure how much we walk. The team who walks the most will be the winner. I participate because I am carious to know how much I walk normally. Our group target is to walk ten thousands steps per person per day from today for two weeks. Could we achieve it?)

Updated 08/03: I didn't manage to walk ten thousands step per day, but some days I walked more than usual. So on average, I did it!

January Sales

Today is the third day of Chinese New Year and it's the year of horse. In my Chinese Blog, I gave my best wishes my readers by using the word 'horse'. Unfortunately, it doesn't really translate well into English. So the best way to do it is to provide the meaning of the wishes: 'Wishing you good health, be successful and earn lots of money immediately!'

January has just passed and it means the Big Sale had just ended for another year. I no longer need to spend too much money for a while. But really, the discount was huge during the Sales. It wasn't right if I didn't get the bargain while it was available...
The best buy this year was the wine from Virgin. It was really cheap and the quality was excellent.
I remember some years ago, I asked my boyfriend (now my husband) to join the Virgin Flying Club. However, he moaned that he never received any good out of it and thought that it was waste of time. However, I think differently about this sort of thing. Recently, I was curious and checked his record. I found out that his mileage was to expire soon. In the end, I exchanged some Virgin Wine voucher and got us some good mixture of red and white wine. I'm sure it would last us for the whole year to enjoy!
